When my son got HFM, I developed a rash a week later. I of course assumed it was also HFM at first -- until it was still there after 2 weeks. I was diagnosed with pityriasis rosea. Seems odd it was just a coincidence but I guess it was.... you never know!
Sounds like a definite possibility. Only a doctor can tell. Both my kids have had this as teens. DS had an incredibly classic Christmas tree rash on his back--his pediatrician brought in one of his colleagues to look (ostensibly for a second opinion) but really to share such a splendidly classic rash. When my DD got it, it wasn't even a Charlie Brown Christmas tree. FWIW, they kicked me out of the room to question her about sexual activity because one of the differentials when the rash is not as classic as my son's is syphilis. There isn't much they can about the rash, though my son's pediatrician advised a trip to Florida to soak up sun. (It was winter here.)
