Sounds like a definite possibility. Only a doctor can tell. Both my kids have had this as teens. DS had an incredibly classic Christmas tree rash on his back--his pediatrician brought in one of his colleagues to look (ostensibly for a second opinion) but really to share such a splendidly classic rash. When my DD got it, it wasn't even a Charlie Brown Christmas tree.

FWIW, they kicked me out of the room to question her about sexual activity because one of the differentials when the rash is not as classic as my son's is syphilis. There isn't much they can about the rash, though my son's pediatrician advised a trip to Florida to soak up sun. (It was winter here.)

Is it very painful, OP? A friend recently had a mild case and it resolved quickly - hope yours does too!

OP here. Just an update, if anyone else is in this situation. Not HFM. Shingles. Apparently having a toddler with HFM is a stressful situation!

I have a large, uncomfortable rash spreading around my back and torso. My son had hand, foot and mouth last week. His started around the mouth. Anyone get this current variety that started on the back or otherwise not on the hands, foot or mouth?
Also might be shingles but expect that HFM is more likely given the germs in our house,.
