We dated in our late twenties, now both 40. I am married. He sent an email telling me how I was his one regret in life, made the biggest mistake by letting me go and that he is sorry for how things ended. He said he still thinks about me and wanted to apologize for being dumb and immature and not appreciating me more. This is the 3rd time in 10 yrs he's done this. This time I wrote him back. I thanked him and asked him how things were going. He told me about how successful he was now (high earner, big house, etc). He was pretty aimless and irresponsible when I knew him. What he doesn't realize is that I already how things are going. I know that he's been divorced and remarried for the 3rd time, had his home foreclosed, filed for bankruptcy, and as recently as May received an eviction notice on his rental. He is also STILL married. It's pretty easy to pull public court records online these days. I wrote him because I knew this and knew that he has not changed at all. I wrote him because I knew he would lie. I wrote him because every time I get annoyed by small things my husband does or am tempted to flirt back with a stranger, I want to remind myself that things could've turned out much differently for me. I'm lucky to have met my husband and to have found such a great man. He is an awesome husband and a great father and I hope I never take him for granted. If your ex contacts you don't be flattered that you were the one who got away. Be glad that you were the one who dodged a bullet and appreciate what you have. The grass isn't always greener.
I'm glad you have closure :) I know how good I have it, all my ex were losers. Thanks for the reminder
