Just back from a trip with kids in early August. Agree with Children's Museum, Aquarium - don't miss Parakeet Point, and it has the only indoor play space in the FQ area. You can take a ferry ride over to Algiers if he/she likes boats. I think it costs $1 or $2. Carriage ride if they like horses. Take the streetcar up St. Charles Ave. You can take it all the way to the Zoo, but it makes many stops along the way. The zoo has a nice "sprayground," but you pay extra (on top of zoo admission) to participate. In fact, you pay for EVERYTHING at any/all of the Audobon museums. Cafe du Monde is a must-do. It's open 24-hours. Some restaurants make allowances for kids, but many don't. More on the family-friendly side: Palace Cafe, Redfish Grill, Mother's, Acme Oyster House. Places kids are frowned on: August, Arnaud's, Galatoire's, and many more that we didn't attempt. The Riverwalk has been renovated into an outlet mall with some nice shops - Last Call, Tommy Bahama, etc. C Worth in the Canal Place mall is a nice stop. The ladies in there are friendly and would welcome your toddler. Have fun!
