Walking around the square during the day and seeing the street vendors and performers is fun.

My husband and I met in NOLA so I would love to take my kids there. Didn't think there was much there but the posts make me think it would be nice to do.

They also do swamp tours about an hour away but I think your little one is still a bit too young to be interested.

Ride the street car down St. Charles and have lunch at Camelia Grill

Insectarium

Octavia Books is a fabulous book store with good author events...see if they have storytime or favorite kids' author visiting during your trip

Walk the Garden District/Uptown areas, much more pleasant for strolling with a toddler than the French Quarter

The Zoo and surrounding park areas are beautiful. Also, fun to take the zoo boat to the aquarium (hope that still runs! I loved doing it as a kid).

Check local papers for any neighborhood festivals....Louisiana festivals can be tons of fun for all ages

Just back from a trip with kids in early August. Agree with Children's Museum, Aquarium - don't miss Parakeet Point, and it has the only indoor play space in the FQ area. You can take a ferry ride over to Algiers if he/she likes boats. I think it costs $1 or $2. Carriage ride if they like horses. Take the streetcar up St. Charles Ave. You can take it all the way to the Zoo, but it makes many stops along the way. The zoo has a nice "sprayground," but you pay extra (on top of zoo admission) to participate. In fact, you pay for EVERYTHING at any/all of the Audobon museums.

Cafe du Monde is a must-do. It's open 24-hours.

Some restaurants make allowances for kids, but many don't. More on the family-friendly side: Palace Cafe, Redfish Grill, Mother's, Acme Oyster House. Places kids are frowned on: August, Arnaud's, Galatoire's, and many more that we didn't attempt.

The Riverwalk has been renovated into an outlet mall with some nice shops - Last Call, Tommy Bahama, etc. C Worth in the Canal Place mall is a nice stop. The ladies in there are friendly and would welcome your toddler.

Have fun!

French Quarter during the day is very family friendly, as are most restaurants anytime. New Orleans is a very family-friendly city

Heading to New Orleans this fall for a few days before visiting family several hours away. Any tips on interesting things to do with a 2yo?
