The job is stable...I am in the tour and travel industry...so Florida is actually a good stepping stone for being in Tourism. I am not 100% into Florida, but I do love outdoor activities. There are a lot of drugs in FL, but I have lived in the hoods of DC for the past 6 years...I just can't do it anymore. I am backing out of the deal. Even if the appraisal comes back to a better evaluation it won't come back to what the sellers want...and they aren't moving on the price. There was a house in my neighborhood...$375. Man...I am sad to leave here, but I can't even afford this little rinky dink house in my slum of a neighborhood. I am leaving my family and moving to my husband's family. Both his parents and sister and aunts and uncles and cousins...all moved to Florida. My family lives in Chevy Chase and NW and paid off their houses and my cousin clears $400K. I have nothing. If I had only known that Columbia Heights was going to be what it was maybe I would have bought a row house back in the early 2000's...But I was just in my 20's...just getting out of school. The bubble happened so fast. In the blink of an eye the studio that I rented on 13th and mass for $450 in 1998 is now $2300. Salaries are slowly catching up in certain industries...but not the tourism industry. If I can make $100K in Florida and be at a lower level than I am here...There is something wrong with DC.
Why do you need to live in DC proper? Have you looked at the suburbs? Tourism industry is very volatile and the first to tank during a recession or economic issue.
