$100K is not the average for most people --- even if the move were temporary, if OP lives beneath her means she can save, increase income, and position herself fit other jobs at that salary level moving forward. People make sacrifices (sacra-fixes) like this to get children into better environments than what they are able to do all the time. If you plan your work and work your plan, it can be smart.

I don't mean the situation makes her sound unintelligent, her posts and they way she writes do.

She writes like a dingy 12 yr old girl.

Make sure the place doesn't have Chinese dry wall! Friends moved into their dream place a couple of years. Not only caused some health problems but it basically destroyed their house. They had to completely tear it down and rebuild. They, along with many of their neighbors, are involved in a class action lawsuit. In the meantime though, they had to rebuild their place on their dime.

I realize you are renting, but that stuff can cause health problems.

It is a huge, huge problem in Florida, and I believe Florida has the highest number of houses with this material.

You don't need a three bedroom with a pool. Get a cheaper place and save your money.

Sinkholes I know scary! I can't live in fear. I lived where I used to have to fake like I was getting out of my car and see if anything was moving in the woods...So many people were getting robbed in my last neighborhood. Where I live now there have been 3 shootings within just a couple of houses and my neighbor has foot traffic 24/7 because it is a trap house. I find little crack bags in my backyard. I mean it seriously could not be any worse. I really thought the job was going to pay like $60K in Florida. I thought this was going to be a tough decision. I would be making a bigger base salary and have bonus potential to equal what I make now. This is a no brainer...and I just hope they will take a transplant. I would pay for my own move down there! We are staying with his dad who lives 30 minutes away from the job until we find a place. I will be so sad if I don't get this job. You can rent a super nice 3 bedroom house for $1300 with a pool. You can travel from coast to coast in a matter of 3 hours. I WANT THE BURBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Salaries are slowly catching up in certain industries...but not the tourism industry. If I can make $100K in Florida and be at a lower level than I am here...There is something wrong with DC.

Why do you need to live in DC proper? Have you looked at the suburbs? Tourism industry is very volatile and the first to tank during a recession or economic issue.

Happy for you. Florida has it own demons so don't assume it's an immediate win, but hope you get it.

If you get the job in Florida, how are you going to get out of your contract with the property that has the appraisal being reevaluated?

Florida isn't exactly the most stable job area. I would be concerned. Being away from family and support is also a major negative.

I make $100 and hate life in DC. Needed to find a two bedroom...didn't want to pay $2400 a month...Found and amazing deal on a place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The appraisal came back even lower...sellers didn't budge. Having appraisal reevaluated (it was too low). Found out I was preggo with #2. Tying my tubes after this one! 3 bedroom soooooooooooooooo out of my reach. Applied for a job in Florida, had the first interview. It also pays almost $100. I AM OUT OF DC FOREVER if I get this job. I keep thinking something is going to happen so that I can stay in DC. My entire family is here. I am from here...born and raised! It is so sad to think about leaving all my aunts, uncles, mom & grandmother...but they can visit me at the beach! 4 bedroom house with a pool and boat dock...$250K to $300K. What is the point of being here. This city is not for families unless you can afford a $500K to $700K house or want to commute 1.5 hours to DC each way. I can't do either!
