They are trying to verify that you were working for company X when you said you were.  One way is to provide a W-2 for the first and last year of employment.  Or a pay stub from the first month or the last month of employment.  Basically, they are trying to establish that you were employed during those times.  They need documenation.  They cannot just call your prior employer and have them confirm that you were employed at that time unless the employer is willing to provide them legitimate written documentation that you were employed during those times.  Most employers will verbally confirm, but not confirm in writing.

So, find something in writing that confirms your actual dates of employment.  And like the PP said, if you are concerned with the information on any document, you can blot out said information before you copy it to send to them.[/quote]
