This is how I am with one of my SILs (my husband's sister).  She is just too joined at the hip with her mother and her aunt (her mother's sister) and her cousin (the mother's sister's daughter).  They all think and act like one person so even though  I like her in and of herself, I cannot get closer to her without knowing that everything I say or do goes right back to "the gang."  So, I just keep my distance.  I am friendly and nice, but not close.

Now, my other SIL (who married my DH's brother), we are close and talk on the phone a lot to keep up.  Maybe once a week or so.  We are kind of the counterbalance, in-laws'/out-laws' "gang" to the other gang referenced above.  :([/quote]
