Not really. She lives far away and her and her brother are just starting to get close after not liking each other as kids and young adults. She is nice and smart and interesting but just in a totally different stage in her life and a little awkward in general (only a few years younger than me). We hang out when she comes to see her parents who are local.

Do you think it is sisters in law who are married to brothers, as opposed to sisters in law who are connected through a sibling - like a woman marries a man and he has a sister wh becomes her sister in law - are more likely to get along?

I think it also depends on ages and stages. I'm not really friends with either of my SILs. We get along fine, but we are just at different stages.

One is 12 years younger than me, no kids yet enjoying the city life. I don't really have a need to call her. The other one is closer to my age & stage, and we'll see each other, but we aren't "friends". If we live closer I could see us in the same circles, but not friends.

I like my SIL, and would love it if we were friends, but after I had kids and she saw that sports would not be the center of their universe she apparently decided that I am not friend material.

One I like a lot, but she lives far away, the other lives nearby and I have come to accept that we will never be friends.

My SIL is in Philly but yes- we email quite a bit and she's been awesome as I've recently become a Mom (she has quite the brood of her own). While we're not "besties", I enjoy her a lot and always have a good time when we're together.

I have 6 sister in laws. (big Italian family) 3 are fine, not a ton in common but we always get along but dont see eachother outside of family events. 2 are "friends", this means we catch dinner here and there, talk/text and generally are interested in each others lives. One is a complete bitch who everyone, including myself, hates.

I have one SIL (husband's sister) and yes we are friends. She lives about 45 min away so we meet probably once a month, if not more, for dinner and drinks by ourselves.

This is how I am with one of my SILs (my husband's sister). She is just too joined at the hip with her mother and her aunt (her mother's sister) and her cousin (the mother's sister's daughter). They all think and act like one person so even though I like her in and of herself, I cannot get closer to her without knowing that everything I say or do goes right back to "the gang." So, I just keep my distance. I am friendly and nice, but not close.

Now, my other SIL (who married my DH's brother), we are close and talk on the phone a lot to keep up. Maybe once a week or so. We are kind of the counterbalance, in-laws'/out-laws' "gang" to the other gang referenced above.

Mine is a real friend however the family dynamics and sometimes get in the way. It happens, no biggie, we're family now so that's all I can expect. We've never gotten into a fight but have been slightly bitchy to one another at the worst. My family is pretty laid back in general though.

Not friends. Would never know her if it wasn't for weird BIL.

I have three SILs and I consider myself to be friends with all of them. I would definitely call them if I wanted to just chat, or to see how they are doing.

Curious to see how many people consider their SIL's to be a real friend? Do you think she thinks you're friends even though maybe you can't stand her?
