People may not realize it, but Bikram Choudry is a sex offender, and when you take a class at a Bikram studio you are supporting him financially (you may not care, but I think it's important for people to be aware and then make their own decisions).  Hot yoga does not have to be Bikram - in DC there are many yoga studios that offer new student specials at a discount rate. The Studio DC is a reputable hot/vinyasa yoga studio in Adams Morgan and Dupont Circle: http://www.thestudiodc.com/yogaschedulelevels.htm. They have a special for new students $20/1 week unlimited or $50/one month unlimited.

And as a yoga teacher, I would point out that in addition to cost, you want to make sure that your teacher is well trained and can guide you safely through a class - sometimes that costs a little bit more :-)[/quote]

Okay so this is partially true.  Not all Bikram studios are in the "inner circle" of Bikram studios that receive support from Bikram himself and thus as part of their agreement, the studio owners provide some percentage of the profits back to Bikram Choudry.  Some studios have received a sanction to operate as Bikram studios but are not paying any money back to Bikram.  So while technically there has been money that went to Bikram from the teachers who attended training (cost of tuition) no part of the actual studio's profit is punted back to Bikram.  So, ask the studio.  It is possible to separate the guru from the practice.  But I personally agree that I have an issue with my money going back to that man even though I find the practice very beneficial.[/quote]
