Okay so this is partially true. Not all Bikram studios are in the "inner circle" of Bikram studios that receive support from Bikram himself and thus as part of their agreement, the studio owners provide some percentage of the profits back to Bikram Choudry. Some studios have received a sanction to operate as Bikram studios but are not paying any money back to Bikram. So while technically there has been money that went to Bikram from the teachers who attended training (cost of tuition) no part of the actual studio's profit is punted back to Bikram. So, ask the studio. It is possible to separate the guru from the practice. But I personally agree that I have an issue with my money going back to that man even though I find the practice very beneficial.
I practice Bikram yoga and I have never heard about this and it sounds disturbing. Please elaborate.
It is kept quiet in Bikram studios because Bikram is a different in terms if community than other lineages. There are, quite simply, many more people who do Bikram who would never be drawn to other forms of Yoga. There was a very open dialogue in the Anusara community about the John Friend situation. Anusara no longer exists. Bikram does. Look, I see the benefits of the practice even if many in the Yoga community disregard it. But the lack if deep discussion in the Bikram community ( aside from random internet message board discussions) is disturbing .
