Our neighbor isn't really from hell; we are cordial. But when my son was about 7 mo and I was super sleep-deprived, I finally decided to let him CIO. (I am pretty anti- but I was a mess.) So after 15 minutes of crying, he fell asleep. Yay! Until the police knocked on my door to tell me that my neighbor had reported "a baby crying." The officer was apologetic but I've never felt totally comfortable with my neighbor since.
it does not sound bad to me. apparently you let your baby cry for a while, and for the first time. as others have pointed out, you could have had a medical problem, or maybe even left the baby by himself. when we read in the news that something happened we wonder how nobody did anything. in this case you neighbor seemed to have shown concern for you and your baby. a nightmare neighbor story would be for me when you fall and remain unconscious, your baby cries for a long time and nobody does anything
