it does not sound bad to me. apparently you let your baby cry for a while, and for the first time. as others have pointed out, you could have had a medical problem, or maybe even left the baby by himself. when we read in the news that something happened we wonder how nobody did anything. in this case you neighbor seemed to have shown concern for you and your baby. a nightmare neighbor story would be for me when you fall and remain unconscious, your baby cries for a long time and nobody does anything

Hilarious. He was protecting you from you sleep deprived self! When your child has his/her first child, you can whip that sucker out and show it to him/her!

I dunno. 15 minutes - maybe they were worried that you had fainted or something? I can see being very concerned. But then I probably would've knocked first, I guess...lol.

The best/worst part is that I then wrote a way-too-long explanatory note to the neighbor. I am happy to say my husband, who was supposed to deliver it, held onto it instead, tucked inside his day planner. I found it years later and was SO glad he kept it to himself.

Don't bother with the police. Instead of helping you, they try to deflect, in many cases. They simply do not want to be bothered with neighbor disputes. Which is understandable, because they know in many cases it is the same yahoo calling/organizing calls every time and trying to get someone else in trouble for something the caller started to begin with.

Teen selling drugs, in the neighborhood and at school. Having wild parties nonstop. Called cops and since they couldn't hear it "from the street" they did nothing.

Came on here to ask for advice and was slammed so bad I had to abandon the question.

Eventually, we got our HOA involved. I looked up the homeowner in FL and called him and asked him how he'd feel to live next door to drug dealers.

They were evicted eventually, by the HOA and us calling the management company nonstop.

Home is now rented to people so SNOTTY that they never even say hello to us. Love it! Fine by me!

We had a neighbor who cooked traditional herbal Chinese medicine in their garage. Must have been in commercial quantities for resale because they had a big propane fired VAT and associated chemistry kit. Aside from the smell, the bugs, and stains from the run-off, this meant they kept their cars parked on the street rather than in the garage. When they sold the house, the new owners acid-washed the garage and epoxied it over. They say that even after 2 years, they can still smell some of it every now and then. But the situation is MUCH better, of course.

OP, search this forum and Off-topic for "neighbors from hell" - there was a fairly recent thread with a lot of war stories and advice.

OP, tell us what they were doing so we can help you. There are countless resources to fight and win against hostile and/or unstable neighbors.

Often, the offenders think they have nothing to lose, when in fact they have everything to lose. Hostile neighbors think you are as stupid as they are, that is their number one mistake. In addition, they often underestimate whom they are acting out against. That is in your favor! GL.

PP here. The disturbed neighbors were (trying to be) so devious, if they so much as look at me the wrong way now, they are in huge trouble. They asked for it.

We are in a row home. We think the woman next us may be a squatter -- she used to be a caretaker for the elderly woman who owned the house, but she has remained in the house well after the elderly woman moved into a nursing home and subsequently died. The house is now owned by the elderly woman's son and he claims to be trying to get the sqautter to move -- to no avail.

The squatter was raising puppies in the house, but she did not have a kennel license, so she never let the puppies go outside. (We could hear them through the walls, and, during the summer, we could smell them.) We called animal control many many times. Finally, this summer, animal control got a warrant to go into her home where they found 4 dogs (2 adults and 2 puppies) and one cat. The puppies were in cages in the basement and the basement floor was littered with feces and urine. They confiscated all animals, but the woman remains next door. It is actually very sad, as she herself is elderly and clearly not right in the head. But she is also impossible to talk to/reason with.

Has anyone had truly awful neighbors? Tell us what happened, and how you dealt with the situation.
