Your peers interested in science and engineering were probably at minimum Carnegie Mellon quality and more importantly could afford it (CMU is stingy in aid in my experience). But for the average middle class public school going northeast person interested in engineering and science, PSU is a big target. Even WSJ 3-4 years ago had a survey where they asked recruiters at f500 firms where they liked to recruit at PSU came out on top. F500, industrial, defense contractors...i.e. typical companies and industries that hire bright 'middle class' kids but not necessarily elite strivers love recruiting at psu. [/quote]
