Wow, sorry about that. (1) Can you privately discuss this with anyone at the organization to get their perspective, or have you done that already? (2) When you say that backing out would make a lot of people angry, are you saying you'd be violating a kind of professional protocol, or else would you be causing inconvenience to these people? If it's professional protocol, then, yes, backing out would be a bad idea. If it's inconvenience, then that *might* be another story. Depends on a lot of factors you'd have to weigh. All of that said, can you turn the less-desirable job into an ideal job?
I will discuss with people, but I don't think there is anything I can do now. I think it would be violating professional protocol. The HR departments have begun working on the transfer, the new boss is expecting me to start, etc. It is an organization where people stay a long time so annoying people would probably not be a good idea. The job I accepted is very different from the one that has just been advertized. I think I just need to suck it up now. It will only be for a few years. I just have this awful gnawing feeling that if I had turned down the crappy job and applied for the good one my life would have taken a very different turn...
You should always look out for yourself. Try to get your dream job. You'll perform better in it than in the crappy job. Nothing's worse than receiving a poor review in a crappy job.
