For now, I'm looking in all industries, but I would prefer a health department. My experience is in population health and epidemiology. I have tried APHA with no luck, but I will look into PHEC.
11:56 here - would you also be willing to share how many years of experience you have? Any particular skills (research methods, SAS/STATA/R etc, grant writing)? I have worked in a couple health departments in my time and believe that's where my heart is as well. I am currently in the private sector and looking to possibly get out, but I must say that it will be tough to get into certain LHDs because of the extreme constraints on budgets. I often see many postings for the VA State Dept of Health in Richmond (not sure if you're willing to relocate) and I'm not sure if that's a good or bad sign. PHEC is an absolute must for any public health job seeker, check it out ASAP. I also like to go directly to the county health dept's website (e.g., Arlington, Montgomery, Fairfax - depending where you wish to work and where you live) and see what they have listed there.
