Ole Miss is a thriving and academically challenging university.  It is not as selective in its acceptance policies as other universities and perhaps this is where a lot of these "elitist for no reason" get their preconceived notions that it must be a school filled with dumb racist.  Acceptance is only part of the college puzzle though.. (oooh I know-  shocking concept for all of you parents that think life revolves around bragging about where your DC got accepted!).  Once accepted at Ole Miss, students find a diverse, multi-cultural and academically challenging college, surrounded by a beautiful  campus.     When I graduated I was recruited by an investment bank in NYC.  When I arrived I was one of only a handful that did not have an "ivy league" background; however, my educational background was just as good and in some cases, especially when it came to critical thinking, better than my "ivy co-workers".  Quite simply it is one of the most under-rated, best educations out there.  Despite misconceptions, there is little to no racial tension and over half of the undergrad student body is from out of state.   I would advise your DS to take a visit to campus and do his research.
