Ole Miss is not hard to get in to. As for any school, you should look at each universities online catalog, and read it carefully. It will tell you if, for example, how many years of foreign language are "required" or "recommended", years of math, etc. Even if a university is not very competitive, they will still not admit a student who does not meet their stated admissions requirements.

As an Ole Miss alum, I get pretty damn sick of listening to ignorant comments such as those in this thread. Your comments are based solely on your own prejudice and hatred and not rooted in fact. Your comments show a basic lack of intelligence - ironic! To answer the OP's question. Ole Miss is a thriving and academically challenging university. It is not as selective in its acceptance policies as other universities and perhaps this is where a lot of these "elitist for no reason" get their preconceived notions that it must be a school filled with dumb racist. Acceptance is only part of the college puzzle though.. (oooh I know- shocking concept for all of you parents that think life revolves around bragging about where your DC got accepted!). Once accepted at Ole Miss, students find a diverse, multi-cultural and academically challenging college, surrounded by a beautiful campus. When I graduated I was recruited by an investment bank in NYC. When I arrived I was one of only a handful that did not have an "ivy league" background; however, my educational background was just as good and in some cases, especially when it came to critical thinking, better than my "ivy co-workers". Quite simply it is one of the most under-rated, best educations out there. Despite misconceptions, there is little to no racial tension and over half of the undergrad student body is from out of state. I would advise your DS to take a visit to campus and do his research.

DS has Ole Miss on his list....we have no southern connections and I know nothing about the school....at this point, all the websites are starting to look the same! Appreciate any input.....
