Feed grain free dry twice a day. No need for canned.
I would, but have heard too much dry can cause kidney problems earlier than canned. I do give it as a little snack though, during the day. Has anyone else heard this?
You are correct that cats need extra moisture for optimal health. A less expensive way to do this than organic wet food (which I feed too) is organic meat -- straight up. Ie, mince a chicken breast in the blender and put it on a plate. Or a blob of beef. Yes, that's not cheap either but it's less than canned cat food if you buy what's on sale. I get organic chicken at Costco) You will need a vitamin or some dry to supplement the micronutrients, of course.
