DCI has less experienced teachers and more turnover. It is bigger than SH and can seem pretty chaotic at times. We have a kid with an IEP and were at a feeder and we did not opt for DCI after getting feedback from other parents of children with IEPs and 504s.
OP here. Where did you decide to go? It's so hard to know what to do! I am not totally opposed to moving, but it sounds like the most sought after schools in NW and near-in suburbs are enormous, which doesn't seem ideal.
If you're open to moving, have you tried looking at Hardy -> MacArthur? They are smaller schools, both are well-loved by parents, and they would keep you in the city. We're only just exploring middle & high schools now so I'm afraid I don't have lived experience - just what we know from the tours and scuttlebutt. Given your specific kid, you might want to look at privates too. I know they can seem cost prohibitive, but financial aid is more common than you might think. Could be worth asking about this in the private school forum. We're looking at St Anselm's for my kid - parochial, small, very well-structured and non-stressful. And of course you can take your chances on the lottery and try for Latin. It's a long shot, but it doesn't cost you anything to try, and it seems likes it smaller and more ordered than DCI.
