Do you have neighbours? Because the quickest way to make enemies with your neighbours is to hang up wind chimes.
Agree. I see you mention nothing on that side, but I can hear our neighbor's chime from down the street
I highly doubt your story, PP. When installing our wind chime, I asked my immediate neighbors whether they could hear it, and neither of them could. If there's high wind coming from that direction, I can hear the small chimes from my backyard neighbor... but it doesn't bother me, because in high wind, you mostly hear wind, and the extra noises, like trees rustling, trash cans rolling down the street, or frantic chimes, aren't all that disturbing.
I don't know what to tell you...doubt away? Its a quiet street so maybe there's usually not a lot to cut through? I hear them more in light than in heavy wind, and there are no leaves rustling for 4ish months. These things can carry!
How does the wind chime bother you exactly? I can vaguely hear my neighbor's wind chime sometimes, but it's not unpleasant. I really don't think about it at all. I find it very tone deaf that people would excoriate others for daring to put up wind chimes, that are not terrible noise-makers, but then turn around and use gas mowers, for example, or get home really late at night and slam their car door (my neighbor's college kid does that), or let their dog bark in the wee hours. A wind chime is not going to wake you up in the middle of the night - if it does, you have sleep issues. It's a nothing burger. Don't shame people for having wind chimes. They're not the ones responsible for noise pollution.
