How does the wind chime bother you exactly? I can vaguely hear my neighbor's wind chime sometimes, but it's not unpleasant. I really don't think about it at all. I find it very tone deaf that people would excoriate others for daring to put up wind chimes, that are not terrible noise-makers, but then turn around and use gas mowers, for example, or get home really late at night and slam their car door (my neighbor's college kid does that), or let their dog bark in the wee hours. A wind chime is not going to wake you up in the middle of the night - if it does, you have sleep issues. It's a nothing burger.

Don't shame people for having wind chimes. They're not the ones responsible for noise pollution.

Give it a rest. DCUM has a horror of wind chimes, but in real life, it's not a bother. I haven't met a single person who complains about wind chimes. Dogs who bark at night, sure! That's the number one complaint. Mowers, gas blowers or builders who come in at 7am sharp, or before that, sure. My listserve is full of whiny, petty people who complain at the drop of a hat, and there has not been a single wind chime post in all the years I've been on there. And yet... my neighborhood has some wind chimes.

So stop it.

Yes, they exist, usually tuned to the pentatonic scale and constructed with the expertise of musicians. I got one from Woodstock Chimes and the sound is resonant and beautiful, instead of being tinny and flat.

My husband got me a set from Wind River Chimes. Amazing sound and quality. You van listen to the chime on each chime's page on their website. A little pricey but really soothing!

You will need to just find one you like the sound of. The suggestion to go to Merrifield is a good one, but I noticed our local Ace Hardware has a bunch of them as well.

Go to Merrifield Garden and test them out before you buy.

I love the sound of a nice wind chime, but I want one that makes a sound other than the cookie-cutter metal or bamboo sound. Does that make sense? Any recommendations?

(This will be placed outside my bedroom window, I have no neighbor on that side, so I don’t think I’ll disturb peace with this wind chime!)
