I have a friend that did a family rafting trip down the river in Idaho and said it was one of best vacations ever. My family is not sufficiently outdoorsy for it, though. I also have friends that have done hiking in Wales or Scotland, which also looks great for an outdoorsy family. Or biking in Ireland, which has really good biking trails. I've also been tempted by the cruises through the fjords in Norway etc -- sort of the European version of the Alaska trip with a lot of overlap but add on the Viking history and the culture differences.
