I have no opinion on whether this is a good purchase or not, but there are about 157,000 students in MCPS, so that purchase is equivalent to about 5 cents per student. It might wasteful and sent the wrong signal, but it's not going to make a substantive difference to the overall budget.
All these things add up. They aren't going to teachers, they are for central office. How about buying basic supplies like wipes, tissues, pens, paper with that money.
What things add up? How much is MCPS currently spending on salaries? How much on supplies? Transportation? How much on t-shirts? You can see all of that here: https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/siteassets/district/departments/budget/fy27_boe_operatingbudget.pdf I don't know, but I'm pretty sure that whatever budget problems the system has won't be solved by not buying a few tshirts, just as my personal budget problems won't be solved by not buying a few candy bars a month.
Do you realize these shirts are for central office, those who make the highest amounts? It all adds up. You may have a high budget but teachers get very little and much lower pay.
