I don't know, but I'm pretty sure that whatever budget problems the system has won't be solved by not buying a few tshirts, just as my personal budget problems won't be solved by not buying a few candy bars a month.

Do you realize these shirts are for central office, those who make the highest amounts? It all adds up. You may have a high budget but teachers get very little and much lower pay.

Yup, we have to pay for polo shirts for band and NJHS, staff can pay for their own polos too.

As with most things, it is better to keep an open mind before jumping to outrage. Do recipients of the shirts reimburse the district for them? Are there school related reasons for the shirts? Do they make it easier for students to find a teacher during a field trip? Do they make it easier for parents of elementary school kids to know who is a school staff member during the first day of school? Are they swag to improve morale? Do they improve school spirit and foster community, which helps with learning? There is a role (even a need!) for the gadfly combing the budget looking for waste, but this one seems to have so many reasonable explanations.
