I think it is unrealistic to put the burden of due diligence on the surrogates. [b]They are usually doing it because they are desperate for money and the surrogacy agencies cover for the intended parents in shady situations because they are the source of all the money.[/b]

I personally support banning commercial surrogacy, but, at the very least, the industry clearly needs better regulation. The surrogacy agencies involved in the case of the Chinese couple with 25 kids must have known something wasn't right but they didn't care as long as they got paid.[/quote]

This is not true in the U.S. Most surrogates are middle class and employed. The vast majority reported that money was not their primary motivation.
