I have a friend who is a lawyer there and absolutely miserable. She is hating every minute of it and has been asked to do some unethical stuff, but feels stuck. I don't know what she plans to do but it really sucks for her. I wish she had tried to get out sooner.
My husband had been a contractor doing data/programming work for ICE. Thankfully, he retired two years ago so isn't caught up in all this. One telling thing from the first T. administration -- he worked on database listing immigrants and they used to have a code to classify "criminals" (I don't know the actual term). It used to note anyone with a conviction. When T came into office they were ordered to use the same code to classify anyone ever arrested. Ta da! a lot more "criminals" to deport.
I will add to this that the arrest or conviction can be for breaking immigration-related laws. So - a person with an illegal entry or reentry arrest or conviction gets the "criminal" flag.
