Please don’t go to the mall where some random 16 year old will pierce them. Reputable tattoo parlor is the way to go.
At the Claire's by us (which I thought would be out of business because of the bankruptcy, but was hopping on the 23rd), the piercers are all older mom age and very experienced. I know the standard advice now is to go to a tattoo or piercing parlor, but my oldest middle schooler has a lot of friends piercing or doing second piercings now. All of the parlor piercings have gone wrong and the Claire's piercings have been fine. I know because they're the age where they want to corner me in the kitchen and give me all of the tedious details of their lives when coming in for snack breaks or drinks. I'm cherishing it and also taking very detailed mental notes. Personally I wish I had pierced my DD's ears when she was a baby when she was born in a place where pediatricians do it. It's not something that's done in my culture but feels like it would have saved a lot of stress now.
