An independent structural engineer has recommended installation of five helical piers at the front of our DC row house, where the front wall is showing signs of moving away from the house. We are calling around to get quotes, but curious if anyone else has done this recently and could share estimates/hassle? We have a front porch with a tiny crawlspace so I'm struggling to figure out how this would be done (or if it is done by tearing up our finished basement).
Have 1-2 other structural engineers draw up their own reports. We got 3 reports done and each was very different from the other. Gave us a full picture. Also helical spheres tend to be over recommended around here. I wouldn’t assume you need them until you have multiple PEs affirming that.
Did you really just recommend they hire three different P.E.s? They aren't cheap.
