It's horrible what these kids get put through. Some schools (Duke last year) won't waitlist kids after deferring them and feel like they should be able to render a decision after looking at a kid's application twice. I appreciate this. Others like Stanford were happy to lead kids on interminably from Dec 12th to AUGUST. Just mentally treat the deferral as a rejection which is easier said than done because hope springs eternal. But is at most of the top schools. The chance of a deferral turning into an acceptance RD is about 5% at most of those schools. [/quote]
