Did you fly economy?  My kid can’t sleep in economy overnight so we did economy premium one way and economy home and the tickets were sooooo expensive.  Hotels in Madrid were also not cheap although I thought prices elsewhere were good.  We stayed in a pretty bare bones marriot so I could use points.

It’s the cost of flights that kills me.  Economy seats are just so so tiny now and so uncomfortable.   And having to do it for a red eye is even worse.  I wish there were more daytime flights to Europe.[/quote]

NP. I ponied up once for Premium Economy for my family and it wasn’t worth it; DCs and I don’t sleep either way and DH could sleep standing up at a loud concert.

We deal with Economy by watching mindless television for 8 hours and snacking on Haribo. Then land, lots of coffee, a 45-minute afternoon nap, some walks and meals, and a long slumber the next night. [/quote]

Same. I won't sleep even in a lie flat seat so there's no point. DD and DH will sleep no matter what, but not well. We buy the cheapest seats we can find and assume the first day we'll be exhausted but plan for it and by day two everyone is fine.[/quote]
