Really depends on where you are flying

I don’t think OP is referring to the kind of international travel where you take Sprit Air to Cancun, but I could be wrong

Just paid the same to fly to FL as it would cost to go to Spain.

I take a mild sleeping pill so can get at least a reasonable amount of sleep. Not great but enough to last a day.

Did you fly economy? My kid can’t sleep in economy overnight so we did economy premium one way and economy home and the tickets were sooooo expensive. Hotels in Madrid were also not cheap although I thought prices elsewhere were good. We stayed in a pretty bare bones marriot so I could use points.

It’s the cost of flights that kills me. Economy seats are just so so tiny now and so uncomfortable. And having to do it for a red eye is even worse. I wish there were more daytime flights to Europe.

NP. I ponied up once for Premium Economy for my family and it wasn’t worth it; DCs and I don’t sleep either way and DH could sleep standing up at a loud concert.

We deal with Economy by watching mindless television for 8 hours and snacking on Haribo. Then land, lots of coffee, a 45-minute afternoon nap, some walks and meals, and a long slumber the next night.

Same. I won't sleep even in a lie flat seat so there's no point. DD and DH will sleep no matter what, but not well. We buy the cheapest seats we can find and assume the first day we'll be exhausted but plan for it and by day two everyone is fine.

It depends on what you are comparing it to and what choices you make in the US.

Yes most things are cheaper, but food is not "a quarter of the cost compared to America" in Singapore. Maybe 20% less, not 75% less.

Yes this stuff is cheaper generally in Europe and Asia, but obviously flight cost can overwhelm that, especially in peak season.

I wouldn't know. We spend our travel money on overseas trips to see aging parents in our home country. It's sad that I haven't visited much of the US with my kids.
