In Army basic training more than 25 years ago to be able to get into basic training from that holding area, you had to be able to do 11 pushups. And yeah there were some people stuck in that holding area because of that. Some of them may have been purposely failing because they regretted joining. But even to graduate basic training the requirements was 42 push ups in two minutes (so about the same as the ICE standards but about double the time and amount) and 53 sit ups in two minutes. Passing the test was hard and this was a bunch of healthy 18 year olds. It got a bit easier as I got older and worked out more and added bulk/muscle. But conversely the two mile run was easy, where I could run it in 12 to 13 minutes. But as I got bigger, it got harder to run too. In my mind, I would say other than the sprint, which is because I've never done it before and don't know, I want to say that this ICE test would be easy for me based on my younger self. But in all honestly, I'm not sure if I'd be able to pass it today. I'm not saying I support or am against ICE in any way. But I wouldn't take it for granted that this fitness test is easy to do, especially if the events follow each other after a five or ten minute break between each event.
