OP here. Thanks for the ideas. Unfortunately for me, I was hoping to find someplace to purchase regularly vs a one-off goldbelly order. I prefer italian cookies bc they are less sweet and often have almond and other nuts. Maybe the Eataly will eventually open in Tysons …
Yeah, I get where you are coming from OP. I love those cookies too and having them fresh is extra special. I try to just make a point of getting them whenever I'm in a place that has them. You'd be surprised where you can find good Italian bakeries in this country! We found a great one in St. Petersburg, FL, a couple years ago that is now a must-visit when we are there, and have our faves in Baltimore, Philly, Richmond, Pittsburgh, and of course NYC and Boston when we are traveling in or, importantly, through any of these cities. It's a shame DC has never had the kind of Italian immigrant community to sustain that kind of place. We love a couple of the Italian delis in the area but none of them have their own bakeries or make their own cookies -- PPs are right the standard is to just get them sourced from one of the big Brooklyn bakeries. Maybe one day!
