DS10 is taking swim lessons, and it is the first time that I get teacher's recommendation to get a tight fit swim trunks for better performance. The one he is wearing are the boardwalk baggy style. Any recommendation for what the teacher looking for but not looking like a boxer brief style ( a bit awkward)? He is not on any swim team.
The suit you need is called a "jammer." You can buy ones that come in youth S, M, L sizes if it is easier to guess the size that way. And you can order easily from Amazon or SwimOutlet or any other online retailer. Remember that jammers are supposed to be snug. They're not made to fit loosely and won't even stay up in many cases if you buy them too big. Cheaper jammers can lose their stretch pretty quickly even if you don't always run them through the washer and dryer. Watch DC from a distance. If the jammers start to droop above the knees or stretch downward it's time to replace them.
+1 Go with Tyr brand, we tried Speedo but it’s like tearing up less than a year, once a week usage. Hand wash cold with very gentle squeeze and hang to dry, not under sun directly.
