My son started at Newton last year for second grade and will be returning next year for third (and there this week for camp)! It is not an exaggeration to say that Newton has changed my son's life and our family's. DS is ND with challenges around hyperactivity, self-regulation and social skills. He was getting lost at public school, exhausted by getting through a day in a big, chaotic classroom, and relying on maladaptive social behavior to try to fit in with peers. Newton's program combines structure, movement, explicit social curriculum, hands-on learning, weekly field trips and integrated services (speech, OT, etc.). Our kiddo is himself again - engaging with curiosity at school, loving learning, energized, developing strong, healthy friendships and making huge gains in self-awareness and self-regulation. The staff is extremely competent, warm and engaging- we could tell from the first visit that they truly enjoy engaging with the kids. The school's founder is a legend and her relentless energy and creativity mean that the school's solid core curriculum is constantly enriched with new projects. After my son's first day at Newton he said, "I don't feel nervous anymore now that I'm at Newton" and he didn't want the school year to end. This was following a year of dragging himself into the neighborhood school each day and coming out exhausted, disregulated and with eroding self-esteem. I can't recommend Newton highly enough!
