You'll lose the warranty in exchange for saving $100-$200 on a part. Based on what I read online, shopping around to different mechanics is more likely to get a price break. Also understand how expensive the coolant is for your vintage of system. I've been told our 20 year old AC will be toast if it gets to the point where it doesn't hold gas.
