Various reasons.
Biggest reason is "made in China" but so are many OEM parts now, just rebranded with American logos and the price jackedup.
Also quality of parts.

There are times though when getting that cheapo part makes more sense. For instance you can buy a non-brand carburetor on there for 1/5 the price of a brand name American one. For simple made products, the cheaper made one makes sense, to avoid the Labor Union rates.

I wouldn't. You'll lose the warranty in exchange for saving $100-$200 on a part.

Based on what I read online, shopping around to different mechanics is more likely to get a price break.

Also understand how expensive the coolant is for your vintage of system. I've been told our 20 year old AC will be toast if it gets to the point where it doesn't hold gas. It is sized for an obsolete refrigerant.

Because that’s a garbage compressor that’s not OEM. For that price, you get a rebuilt/remanufactured copy that’s already been worn-out once before already.


I’m sure quality will be as good as a new OEM part 😂

Instead of amazon, look online for Honda wholesaler. Just google the part number to get results. Many Honda dealers will wholesale parts. They are factory parts, just not retail prices. Bernardi parts is one example of many.

Hopefully, you can find local shop to install.

They have repair estimators on line. Depending if you get new, new OEM, rebuilt or just used, parts and labor will probably run 1000-1500.

Comp is dead. My mechanic says it's going to cost $$ and asking me if I really want to fix it. He hasn't given me the estimate yet. Any ideas? I am guessing it will be more than 1000.
