I am watching Trump’s NATO press conference, and it just infuriates me how he bullies people, calls them names, and is just so unbelievably disrespectful. Not to mention his blatant lies. No adult should be able to keep their job after acting this way. I’m a 5th grade teacher. I spend so much time teaching work ethic, kindness, respect, and civil discourse. Every time I hear him speak, I think of my students, current and former. He is so incredibly rude to everyone who doesn’t bend the knee. It’s unbelievable, and I think we are underestimating the effect this has on our kids. Whether we want him to be or not, he is setting an example for our kids. No matter what those kids or family members say or think of him, the fact remains. We have taught our kids that you can be so incredibly vile and still rise to the top. People try to justify not caring about this by saying that his personality doesn’t matter and has nothing to do with his politics and leadership. This is someone whose words and actions can literally start a war. Of course it matters. Our kids have been through a lot. Due to internet and social media, they face challenges and influences that are beyond our comprehension. We need to do better at electing and elevating leaders who are the type of adults we want our kids to be.
