My DD is 12 and has recently become totally obsessed with volleyball. Three of her friends play on a club team and she wants to try out. Up until now, she’s only tried rec soccer and some tennis so she's a total beginner. She’s always been on the shorter and slender side, currently 4'11" and based on genetics, she’ll probably top out around 5'6" at most. I know volleyball tends to favor taller players, so I’m just wondering if she would be considered too short? Another mom mentioned she’d probably only be able to play libero and that it’s super competitive. Just trying to get a sense of whether it’s realistic to encourage her, or if we should start exploring other sports where height isn’t such a big factor. Appreciate any thoughts!
Depends on athletic ability, dedication, and work. Height does limit you to a back row position at the highest levels but there is a spot for short players. My 5'5" Daughter is a mid-major D1 libero.
