Volleyball is a great sport and you should definitely encourage her to play. Being taller is an advantage for most positions, but there are tons of shorter girls who play at a high level. If you spend much time perusing these forums you will learn quickly that there are teams of all levels in the club volleyball universe.  On all but the top few teams in our region, many of the hitters will not be super tall and in many cases a more skilled but shorter girl will be more effective. If you are already thinking about the potential to play in college, a shorter player is likely to end up playing libero or defensive specialist, but at 12, you have a few years before you have to consider that. For now I say let her play and hopefully she loves it.[/quote]
