Not cool of your Board AT ALL. Who dropped the ball???
No idea! It’s not like it’s something I’m usually in charge of and they forgot that someone else would have to step up. And the new officers were recognized so it’s not like they could have inadvertently assumed I had another year or two to go. I feel like I might have done a bad job and they decided to just quietly see me off. It’s not a role I actively outside but was asked to take on when another leader stepped down unexpectedly and no one else wanted to do it.
No, even people who do a bad job get thanked, if only because others are afraid they might inadvertently show how much of a good riddance it is that they're leaving! This looks like a sad oversight. I'm sorry, OP. I would be disappointed too, but what matters is the work you did when you were on the Board. We don't do this stuff for the accolades, right? At the end of the day, it's all minor. Celebrate YOU by yourself and get a nice treat for tonight! What do you want? Slice of cake and Netflix? :-)
Slice of cake is a brilliant idea. In confidence and anonymity, I think I did do it for the accolades or at least a little recognition? I took the role on at a time when my career got mommy-tracked and I wanted other opportunities to work hard on challenging projects and make an impact. It’s been 6 years of weekly work and sometimes equivalent to a part-time and even full-time unpaid job. The work we do is long-term and sometimes invisible and doesn’t always show immediate operational results, so I guess I just wanted to feel noticed in the Board room which is the one place where everyone knows what’s behind the curtain.
People can be inexplicably stupid. This is the perfect time to get yourself an indulgent consumable treat at the grocery store and watch a comedy special.
