No, even people who do a bad job get thanked, if only because others are afraid they might inadvertently show how much of a good riddance it is that they're leaving!

This looks like a sad oversight. I'm sorry, OP. I would be disappointed too, but what matters is the work you did when you were on the Board. We don't do this stuff for the accolades, right?

In confidence and anonymity, I think I did do it for the accolades or at least a little recognition? I took the role on at a time when my career got mommy-tracked and I wanted other opportunities to work hard on challenging projects and make an impact. It’s been 6 years of weekly work and sometimes equivalent to a part-time and even full-time unpaid job. The work we do is long-term and sometimes invisible and doesn’t always show immediate operational results, so I guess I just wanted to feel noticed in the Board room which is the one place where everyone knows what’s behind the curtain.[/quote]
