DC in 6th grade - had a 262 in Fall, 264 in Winter and now 261 in Spring. No growth really and a drop. Is this normal or should I talk to the Math teacher?
Nice humble brag, PP. Your child is already in the 99% percentile with scores at the same level as my fifth grader. It likely means that they're not understanding higher end concepts that haven't been taught yet -- no surprise unless you're doing more advanced work outside of school (like my DD).
This is my 3rd grader’s score range. Any ideas for resources that can help with this more advanced work that your 5th grader is using now?
MAP is adaptive so the better you do, the harder your questions become. In math, that sometimes leads to stagnant scores for high achieving students even if their math sense is building and they are tackling more complex problems within their knowledge base. So they'll stagnate on scoring because they haven't learned the new skills required for a higher score (even if they've mastered the skills tested at that current score level). If you haven't taken Algebra, Algebra 2 or Trig yet, then no more how much better they do on grade or slightly above grade level work, they're not going to score beyond a certain point. The test is also designed so you're only answering about 50% of the questions correctly. We work at home with various courses and books at least two grades above current math being taught (i.e., 5/6).
