Your kid needs to be better than (at least) the bottom 1/3 of the higher level team as well as better than everyone on their team, plus better than anyone else who shows up at tryouts... its easier to move from the lowest tier team to a mid tear team, moving up to the first team is usually the hardest and your kid really must deliver.
