For recreational level, what have your kids tried in elementary school for boys or girls? I know every kid is different, but I just want to use it as a reference. I have a son who is active, and he is hesitating to try a new activity for recreational level. I have a girl who is not that active and I want her to try something to move around. For my girl, she is scared to get hurt and she is scared of bugs. We are in Montgomery county.
I think new sports are best tried with friends. My DD tried lacrosse and volleyball because friends were doing them. Given your DD's parameters, volleyball may actually be good because it's indoors. What sports has your son tried? Again, find a friend but you could try flag football/ultimate frisbee, which are active but not the usual soccer/baseball.
