Would plyometrics help prevent ankle injuries and shin splints?
Plyometrics are known to increase ankle strength and prevent ankle injuries. There is no guarantee that you completely avoid ankle injuries by doing plyometrics, so your athlete still needs to be careful no matter how much s/he exercises. I didn't know the answer regarding shin splits, but I was curious. With the caveat that I am not a physical therapist and you should not take advice from an anonymous forum, here is a video that I found: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUIgP0yyrdw. There are several in the series and it appears that plyometrics may even help as you recover from shin splints (see the 4th video in the series).
