The school based elc was a joke did they improve with yet another pilot?
Maybe at your school. I am happy with the ELC at my child’s school. Like the creativity, books, and teacher is wonderful.
Have they confirmed whether or not they're continuing it next year?
Haven’t heard anything yet, but knowing our school, they will probably go back to no differentiation in a heartbeat. Before 4th grade when there was no ELC and CM, they did not see anything wrong with letting iep students wander around interrupting class and tried to reprimand me for complaining. No learning was done and it was a big hang out. My kid will be in MS magnet next year so I no longer have a dog in this fight, but I feel sorry for those that do not get a seat in the CES lottery.
This is what I keep saying. It makes no sense to remove ELC from 4th and 5th grade. If they want to use different curriculum, maybe. But changing how the program is supposed to function overall doesn’t make sense. Especially when all schools haven’t implemented WIN/FIT time in a meaningful way. CKLA is a better curriculum for on level absolutely. But if there are students who are ready for quicker deeper learning at age 9/10 why hold them back. The point is to remove barriers for everyone not make everyone the same.
+1 Having a separate class for advanced learners provides for meaningful acceleration and enrichment. I now have a middle schooler and see what a joke “advanced” English for all is—nothing andvanced about it. I suspect it is the same is true with “honors” English for all in high school. I certainly hope MCPS is not moving backwards for 4/5 ELC.
