I’m in California and here, a lot of kids are going to very good community college programs and getting picked up that way. They can get recruited out of the transfer portal so it’s a much smarter way to get to a D1 team now. But, it’s a risk because you might not get picked up at all. I’m not sure how common that is elsewhere; I get the sense the California community college system is more heavily used than in other places.

For D2 it’s a mixed bag. The CSU D2 conference is very good, probably one of the best D2 conferences in the country, but they tend to recruit entirely in California so there are HS kids getting picked up there. However, California is huge with a very deep soccer culture, so I’m not sure how that applies elsewhere.

D3 is a different matter. Plenty of recruiting of HS kids at that level. [/quote]
