Make sure they ask lots of questions/research the tour guide/service on the web etc. Would look for one that has website/reviews---not just the first "guide with camel" that they meet. There are lots of Sahara "glamping" tours where can ride a camel overnight to a desert camp, have dinner, spend the night and then come back.
